The longer reads. What a change actually means, what is still uncertain, and what a digital leader should do about it on Monday morning.
News tells you what happened. Analysis is where we do the work of saying what it means — and, just as often, where we say that it is too early to tell and explain why.
Analysis is where publications usually stop showing their working. We do the opposite. Where a conclusion rests on an assumption, the assumption is stated. Where the evidence supports two readings, both are given. Where we are guessing, we say so rather than writing around it.
Opinion is always labelled and never sponsored. Commercial relationships do not buy an editorial conclusion — the line is written down in our advertising and sponsorship policy, and the sourcing rules are in our editorial standards.
Staff writers and named contributors, pressure-tested by the Collective — senior practitioners who tell us when we have called something wrong before it publishes rather than after. Contributors work to published contributor terms.
